Introducing my showreel “Year One”. Highlighting some of the work that I have produced during my first year as a freelance cameraman/editor.
Just over a year ago a brought a 550D and haven’t looked back. In the past year i’ve had the opportunity to travel and work with some amazing people and this little video is a homage to them.
During the summer of last year I was approached by Cave Studios in Ebbw Vale to direct a educational drama with the local school. The film was finished just after Christmas and has been shown around schools and screened in Ireland.
Anyway, I will post a future blog about it when it is ready to upload on the internet. However until then it was recently mentioned on the BBC News website and theSouth Wales Argus website.
As a filmmaker I am always torn between fiction and documentary and hate to confine myself to either. If there is a story that needs telling or a theme that needs exploring, we need to work out first which is the most effective. Different horses for courses type of thing.
But as a kid fiction is what use to inspire me and created my passion. With age, documentaries have taught me more about the world I live in and the people that inhabit it. Two very noble goals that shaped me deeply.
Oh man, would I have given anything to come up with that title. “The Future Belongs to the Curious” is a video by One Year Study. There are a lot of videos and films online that try to mimic and exploit the feeling of being in a creative industry, however this video is not one of them. Do yourself a favour and watch it below and the next few paragraphs will make a lot more sense.
So with a new year comes a new site. A lot less cluttered then the old one, more clean and simple, suits me perfect I think.
If you don’t know much about me, let me introduce myself. My name is Simon and I am a DSLR filmmaker, nice to meet you.
